Platform as a Service

A cloud computing model in which a third-party provider delivers hardware and software tools, usually those needed for application development, to usersover the internet. A PaaS provider hosts the hardware and software on its own infrastructure.


Plug and Play

The ability of a component to connect, or plug in, to a socket within a component framework, via a published interface, and to be able to operate immediately without disturbing any other component.


Point-to-Point Integration

Direct integration between specific systems or applications, enabling data exchange or communication without intermediaries.


Portability

A measure used to express how easy it is to move an application from one environment to another.


Portal

A Web application that resides on the intranet or Internet designed to aggregate and personalize information for access from a single source.


Portfolio

A collection of projects or programs and other work that are grouped together to facilitate effective management of that work to meet strategic business objectives. The projects or programs of the portfolio may not necessarily be interdependent or directly related. In HRSAID the Branch Chiefs manage portfolios.


Power User

Someone who has considerable experience with computers and utilizes the most advanced features of applications.


Predictive Analytics

A range of analytical and statistical techniques used for developing models that may be used to predict future events or behaviors.


Predictive Modeling

A process used in predictive analytics to create a statistical model of future behavior. Predictive analytics is the area of data mining concerned with forecasting probabilities and trends.


Prescriptive Analytics

A form of advanced analytics which examines data or content to answer the question “What should be done?” or “What can we do to make X happen?”
