Legacy System

A legacy system, in the context of computing, refers to outdated computer systems, programming languages or application software that is used instead of available upgraded versions. The term used to describe an old system that has been replaced by something more suitable to the current operation, but still holds data that is needed. The term usually refers to mainframe applications, although difficult to maintain, they may be too important to discard.
