On-Demand Software

A type of software delivery model that is deployed and managed on a vendor’s cloud computing infrastructure and accessed by users over the Internet as and when required.


On-Line Transaction Processing

When a user is interacting directly with the application. Each time the user enters information or requests information is considered to be a transaction. Most types of self service are examples of OLTP, like bank ATM’s and enrolling in your benefits online.


On-Premise Software

A type of software delivery model that is installed and operated from a customer's in-house server and computing infrastructure. It utilizes an organization’s native computing resources and requires only a licensed or purchased copy of software from an independent software vendor. In the case of on-premise software, the purchaser capitalizes the expenses of the software.


Onboarding

The process of hiring, orienting and immersing new employees into their roles and into the organization’s culture.

Open Source

Code that is available publicly and that anyone can use. People can take it and modify it for their purposes.


Open Systems

An architecture where applications can run on a variety of leading hardware and database platforms without the need for changes to the application programs. For example, an application that can run on Oracle or SQL would be considered open from a database platform perspective.


OpenID Connect

An authentication protocol that allows applications to verify the identity of users based on the authentication performed by an OpenID Connect provider.


OpenID Connect Provider

A service or platform that implements the OpenID Connect protocol for user authentication and identity verification.


Operating System

The software that tells a computer how to run its most basic functions and how to interpret user commands. For example; Windows is the operating system for PCs and Macintosh is the operating system for Apple Computers. In mobile devices, operating systems are most typically Android or, for Apple products, iOS.
