Database

A set of data. A permanent, self descriptive store of interrelated data items arranged in a logical way that can be accessed by various computer programs.


Database Management System

A set of software applications combined with a database whose main functions are to create the database; insert; read; update and delete database data; maintain data integrity and security and prevent data from being lost by providing backup and recovery capabilities.


Datamart

A database, or collection of databases, designed to help managers make strategic decisions about their business. Whereas a data warehouse combines databases across an entire enterprise, data marts are usually smaller and focus on a particular subject or department. Some data marts, called dependent data marts, are subsets of larger data warehouses.


De Facto Standard

A standard that may not be recognized by an official standards body but is in fact a standard to all who choose to comply with it.


De Jure Standard

A standard set by an official standards body, with the capability of revising the content and enforcing adherence. Decentralization The distribution of control, decision-making, and data across multiple participants or nodes in a network, reducing reliance on central authorities.






Decentralized Identifiers

Unique identifiers that are globally unique, persistent, and under the control of the entity or individual to whom they are assigned, enabling self-sovereign identity.


Decentralized Identity

A self-sovereign and user-centric identity model that enables individuals to own and control their digital identities and personal data.


Decentralized Identity Foundation

Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF): An organization focused on advancing open standards and technologies for decentralized identity management.
