The system or systems used to collect, store, maintain and retrieve information needed to manage human resources. An HRIS may include only basic employee information or information needed for all of the human resource functions (e.g. benefits, compensation, payroll, etc.). NOTE: This is also used to refer to the department that manages the Human Resourcetechnology for an organization. The collection of software components and other technology that go to make up a system to collect and process data about people within an organization. The boundaries vary according to what organizations perceive as belonging to the system and sometimes includes hardware and network. Usually it is transactional software components (to create, read, update and delete data), reporting facilities and web browsers for workflow and self-service applications.
