Air, Food, Water, Internet – Cisco Study Reveals Just How Important Internet and Networks Have Become as Fundamental Resources in Daily Life Demonstrating the increasing role of the network in people's lives, an international workforce study by Cisco revealed that one in three college students and young professionals considers the Internet to be as important as fundamental human resources like air, water, food and shelter. The 2011 Cisco Connected World Technology Report also found that more than half of the study's respondents say they could not live without the Internet and cite it as an "integral part of their lives" – in some cases more integral than cars, dating, and partying. Chapter two will be published in the December Wire.

Four Tech Trends Fueling Hiring Recently Released Salary Research By Robert Half Technology Indicates Key Growth Areas Mobile media isn't just making it easier to get information on the go - it's also creating demand for professionals who can help companies beef up their mobile presence, according to the 2012 Salary Guide from Robert Half Technology. Other technology trends fueling IT hiring include: access to increasing amounts of data, constantly evolving IT security threats and growing online collaboration in business. "The demand for professionals who can help companies take advantage of new technologies, such as mobile media or popular collaboration tools, is outpacing the supply in some cases," said John Reed, executive director of Robert Half Technology. "This has resulted in higher starting salaries within certain specialty areas."

Clarity in the Cloud: the impact, opportunity and risk of cloud Transform your business with the cloud. This drumbeat has punctuated just about every technology and business conversation over the past few years. Fueled by hype, oversimplification and promotion, cloud provocateurs can carry on at length about what cloud is and how it can transform your business. Few can tell you what companies are actually doing to benefit from the cloud or how to create and deploy a cloud strategy that is truly transformative. Not surprising. Cloud adoption is fraught with business and operational challenges surrounding technology, security, total cost of ownership (TCO), and the intersection with business strategy and operations. Most have very little experience with actual implementation. What’s more, few have addressed the full impact of cloud integration with other applications and data, organizational redesign and change management, compliance, taxes, and security. |

Gartner Identifies the Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2012 Gartner defines a strategic technology as one with the potential for significant impact on the enterprise in the next three years. Factors that denote significant impact include a high potential for disruption to IT or the business, the need for a major dollar investment, or the risk of being late to adopt. A strategic technology may be an existing technology that has matured and/or become suitable for a wider range of uses. It may also be an emerging technology that offers an opportunity for strategic business advantage for early adopters or with potential for significant market disruption in the next five years. These technologies impact the organization's long-term plans, programs and initiatives.

Build A Team Culture Among Your Employees Learn how to establish an environment that promotes idea sharing and mutual respect What we ignore in business is oftentimes crucial to our success. What we don’t address can sometimes be the missing element to uncover success and raw potential that can catapult us beyond our expectations. We, as a culture, don’t talk about human potential in business. We don’t talk about the synergistic power of teams. Human Resources, is a dirty word in business. Often, we as business owners, don’t understand it, don’t value it or don’t know how to DO it. This is a mistake. As leaders, we need to take the initiative to figure out Human Resources. This is why you’re here. Orchestrating a powerful shift in the energy and focus of your team can transform your company potential, the meaningfulness of your work and the quality of the client experience. This guide will outline the specific actions to take if your desire for change is great enough. |

Enrollment and the Web: The new norm With online enrollment more than doubling in five years, the need for a consolidated web-based enrollment platform is stronger than ever Guardian recently conducted a national survey to learn about employees’ use of online benefits enrollment. The majority of employees report that having a consolidated benefits enrollment web portal would help them better evaluate and appreciate the value of their benefits options. Furthermore, web-based enrollment continues to grow, with employees embracing its convenience and time savings.
Are you ready for the era of ‘big data’? Radical customization, constant experimentation, and novel business models will be new hallmarks of competition as companies capture and analyze huge volumes of data. Here’s what you should know. Over time, we believe big data may well become a new type of corporate asset that will cut across business units and function much as a powerful brand does, representing a key basis for competition. If that’s right, companies need to start thinking in earnest about whether they are organized to exploit big data’s potential and to manage the threats it can pose. Success will demand not only new skills but also new perspectives on how the era of big data could evolve—the widening circle of management practices it may affect and the foundation it represents for new, potentially disruptive business models.
