Global Assessment Trends Report The Global Assessment Trends Report is an annual indicator of assessment practices, giving HR professionals a comprehensive view of how organizations around the world measure talent across the employee lifecycle. This year’s report includes the results of an online survey conducted in late 2012 and completed by 592 human resources (HR) professionals from companies headquartered throughout the world. The report focuses on organizations’ talent assessment practices with both internal and external job candidates. As in previous reports, pertinent comparisons are drawn to results of previous Global Assessment Trends Reports to identify trends over time. Additionally, relevant comparisons between respondents in emerging versus established economy types are presented. The report focuses on three areas: the HR landscape in 2013, the nature of assessment use in organizations, and the use of technology in assessment. Read the report from SHL Americas

Building the New Leader
Leaders of the future will need to be adept conceptual and strategic thinkers, have deep integrity and intellectual openness, find new ways to create loyalty, lead increasingly diverse and independent teams over which they may not always have direct authority, and relinquish their own power in favor of collaborative approaches inside and outside the organization. Avoid Stiffness, Neck, and Back Pain This Conference Season With These Simple Tips Conference season is an exciting time in the HR world. We all hope to return to the office with a renewed sense of purpose, some fresh ideas, great connections, and of course, more swag than necessary. But how many times have you instead come home more exhausted than when you left? Or suffering from acute neck pain, back pain, or stiffness? As a chiropractor, the most common complaints that I hear from my patients after they have spent a few days away on business are those of pain and stiffness. In fact, I even saw it with my own employees, which is why many years ago I developed a set of rules for my employees to follow to preemptively keep them healthy and pain free during conference season. By first recognizing the problems, and then adopting the proper solutions, you’ll be sure to return home from your trip healthier and more energized than when you left. . HR Managers Focus on Recruiting Experience as War for Talent Intensifies In today's competitive market for quality talent, it’s just as important for the business to make a lasting impression on candidates as it is for the candidate to impress the hiring manager. The stakes are higher than ever with organizations focused on retaining valuable employees and hiring only the best and the brightest. To that end, HR managers are re-examining recruiting processes – from sourcing candidates through social media to employing sophisticated new tracking systems – to ensure that qualified candidates don’t get lost in the shuffle. |

The Case for Better Document Collaboration Findings from Harris Interactive® Knowledge Worker Survey, Commissioned by Perforce Software Ineffective document collaboration issues are pervasive across the United States and the United Kingdom. These issues are costly in terms of lost productivity and even lost business; and they are detrimental to morale. Surprisingly, existing document management systems and file sharing services do not seem to reduce the frequency of document-related issues. This report illustrates the effects of document collaboration issues quantified by a Harris Interactive online survey of 1,004 knowledge workers conducted in the United States and the United Kingdom during August 2012. The survey results make it clear that organizations should provide their knowledge workers with better document collaboration systems—ones that fit the way business teams work and that accommodate simple, everyday tasks. |

April/May 2013 Issue – This issue focuses on two frequently mentioned topics in HR – Human Capital Analytics and Workforce Planning. Some may joke that these subjects share the common trait of being subjects that nearly every company talks about, but which few companies actually do. However, we hope that with a lineup of both industry practitioners from the trenches, as well as stories from some experts in analytics and workforce planning, we can help HR and organizations alike to make progress. Of course, even with great stories, case studies and examples, we still have the fact that this deals with a topic many in the HR profession avoid whenever possible, i.e., math. Who goes into HR for the math? That said, if the HR profession is waiting for all the other business functions and top management to learn to speak/understand and embrace soft HR, we have a long wait ahead of us. In fact, it likely will never happen. The language of business is not English, or any other spoken language, rather it is the language of dollars and cents, of currency regardless of country. Revenue, costs, and the ubiquitous bottom line; the ongoing search for profit is here to stay. It is high time HR stepped up to use these same tools – data, basic math and building business cases with numbers – to truly “take” their place, not with a seat somewhere at the table, but rather at the right hand of the CEO as both trusted advisor and steward of the workforce; a source of strategic competitive advantage for all companies and all industries. This issue’s articles describe how HR’s use of human capital analytics and workforce planning will yield positive bottom-line results. June/July 2013 Issue – “Physician, heal thyself.” The intent of that well-known saying equally applies to the Human Resources function. HR must not only help their business clients adapt to change but also has to adapt itself to sweeping changes that are redefining its structure and ability to be both relevant and effective. In this issue of WSR we will explore the changing landscape of HR and the technology that supports it. Book Release from IHRIM Publications “Heroic HR, a little book with BIG ideas” by Marc S. Miller is now available at www.ihrimpublications.com. HEROIC HR provides a quick, easy, lively and valuable treatise on how to ensure that the HR function in your organization is viewed as a Strategic Partner. “The ideas are particularly helpful as they relate to investing in HR technologies to drive efficiency through employee and managerial self-service,” according to Dave Ulrich, Professor, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Visit the website, read the reviews by leading HR professionals, then order your copy today. It’s a little book with some really big ideas that you can implement in your company.
