IHRIM's New Magazine:
Workforce Solutions Review

The IHRIM.link and IHRIM Journal have been combined into one new bi-monthly magazine, Workforce Solutions Review (WSR). And, as you will see in our inaugural issue, nothing has been lost in the transition. WSR will bring the best of the Link and Journal by maintaining a high level of professionally-written editorial content from recognized thought leaders and senior management. More information will be sent with the inaugural issue the first week of May.

As a publication that is dedicated to bringing you the latest concepts and trends in the HR solutions arena, there is no better way to launch WSR than with an examination of how Lean, Six Sigma and other quality improvement methodologies have begun to make a footprint in the Human Resources space.

Public Virtual Worlds: Ready for Corporate Prime Time?

By Scott Randall, BrandGames

I first became interested in the idea of business simulations as a guest at a Systems Dynamics conference at MIT in1990, but the concept of immersive virtual learning platforms have been around ever since the earliest ‘automated teaching machines’ were built with punch-card technology in the 1950s. Now, massively multiplayer game technology allows interconnectivity, 3D graphics, and advanced physics-based behaviors for multiple users. All of a sudden, the possibilities for computer-based simulations seem endless.

HR Technology Implementation Value Survey: Executive Summary

Collective HR Solutions, LLC (CHRS), a Human Resources Technology consulting firm, with support from the International Association of Human Resources Information Management (www.ihrim.org) conducted a recent survey assessing the value provided to companies from current HR technology implementations.

The impetus of this survey comes from the observations of over 20 years of implementation experience of the associates of CHRS. We have found from experience that tracking to standard Return on Investment (ROI) factors does not sufficiently measure the value and success of a technology implementation project. Thus, many projects deemed to have met the ROI measurements really do not reflect the impact to the business, favorable or otherwise.

Click here to read the survey's Executive Summary.

Join Collective HR Solutions at the IHRIM 2010 Conference where they will present the survey results and foster discussion on the results.

Staffing for Intelligence

Successful business analytics begins with a clear inventory of analytic resources, a solid structure and technology, and a cross-functional analytical team.

Increasingly, organizations of all sizes are moving from creating products and services targeting the mass market to becoming intensely customer-focused. They are heading toward a culture of making decisions based on facts and evidence versus intuition and “gut feel.” Yet many of these efforts are stymied because there are not enough data professionals or a proper organizational structure in place to support business analytics.

For more information on metrics and workforce analytics, make plans to attend IHRIM's 2010 Workforce Analytics Forum on July 13 in Boston.

Why Smart Employees Underperform: 7 Hazards to Avoid

We’ve all been there. After an extensive and thorough search for a line manager, one candidate stands out. This candidate has the right experience, solid qualifications, and a relevant work history, and she gave an impressive performance during the interview process. She said the right things, put forward some great ideas and generally presented very well.

You hired her. Three months later, you begin to question your decision. Your new hire’s team appears disgruntled, morale is low, and output and productivity are well behind the figures from the previous quarter.

Checking References on HRIS Software

By Clay Scroggin

Checking References on HR systems in which you are interested is always a good idea. If HRIS Vendors can’t provide references, or a reference provides a poor opinion of the HR software, that is certainly a red flag. Neither is likely to occur. HRIS software companies are only going to provide references who are happy with their particular HR system. They will usually call the client before providing their name as a reference to ensure they are willing to be a reference and that they are happy with their Human Resource software. The question then becomes, “How valuable are references if the HR software companies are handpicking them?” Here are a couple of tips to get the most out checking references when comparing HR systems.
